概要
2004年 7月31日（日曜日）から 6日（金曜日）まで、米国のカルフォルニア州サンディエゴにおいてIETF ミーティングが開催された。総参加者数は、1511名であった。
今回、開催されたセキュリティエリアのWG の一覧は、下記のとおり。

主に PKI について議論になった。
「 PKI は難しく、複雑すぎて使えない状況にある」ことに関しての議論が中心となった。より使い易いPKI 仕様策定のための議論を行うためのメーリングリスト ”Easycert” を設けるきっかけとなった。
