Tanabe Takefumi

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry

Takefumi has been working in the IT security policy division in the Japanese government for four years, covering IT security policy-making including setting IT security policy guidelines for Japanese government systems, establishing the Common Criteria scheme based on ISO/IEC 15408, and developing R&D strategy in the Cabinet Secretariat and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. This is extraordinary, since normally government officials change their position every two years. So Takefumi is one of few people who know well about IT security in the government.

During this period, Takefumi spent two years, from July 2002 to May 2004, in the United States studying international affairs at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University, focusing on international relationships, national security and international accounting.

Takefumi’s current role is general management of the entire IT security policy issue in the private sector, from the perspective of the reliability of the information economy.
