Technical Evaluation of OSS and Development

Technical Evaluation of OSS and Development

The improvement of the technical level of OSS, and accumulation of the evaluated information and the case information necessary for the introduction of OSS will be carried out from four manners. They are the development of themes invited from the public, the development of themes specified by OSS Center, the evaluation of OSS combination and the practices of proving OSS usability.

In the development by invited proposals, OSS Center calls for proposals from the public and selects themes and supports the development of them which encourage activities of OSS communities. In this case, contribution to the international communities is considered.

In the development of themes specified by OSS Center, OSS Center will specify themes that are important for OSS promotion, however, if for some reasons the development has not been done or is insufficient, OSS Center calls for candidates to develop and selects the most appropriate companies and supports the development.

The evaluation of OSS combination is to prepare the objective performance evaluation methods and also develop tools for evaluation. By this, OSS Center will collect evaluated performance data and make it open to the public. This data will be a guide for those who plan the use of OSS.

The practices of proving OSS usability is to support and promote the leading utilization of OSS in the main services in local governments and schools. By providing the OSS usability, we expect the increase of OSS users in these fields. OSS Center plans to extend the on-going practices.
