本書は、RFC 3978 "IETF Rights in Contributions" を「今や IETF トラストは、すべての IETF 関連の知的財産権の正規保管者であること」に対応するように更新します。
本書は、「どのように IETF トラストは、その権限を実行するか？」は規定しません。

1.1. IETF トラスト
現在、IETF は、「IETF への寄書の著者は、IETF（IETF 標準化過程における参加者の全体を意味する）に、そのような奇書を送る過程の一部として、非排他的権限と許諾の一定範囲 を許諾すること」を要求します。これらの権限や許諾は、"IETF Rights in Contributions"（RFC 3978 - BCP 78）[RFC3978] に詳説されています。
IETF トラストは、最近、IETF 標準化過程に関するすべての著作権および他の知的財産権を運用管理するカストディアンとして形成されました。（[IETF_Trust_Agmt] 参照。）これは、これまで、ISOC および CNRI（Corporation for National Research Initiatives）によって扱われていたことです。
IETF は、BCP 101 [BCP101] に規定されている IASA（IETF Administrative Support Activity）によってサポートされています。BCP 101 は、[RFC4371] によって、IETF トラストの創設に対応するように更新されました。

3.4 (b) 項において、"IETF,"の後に "IETF Trust, " を追記します。
4.2 節において、"ISOC and the IETF" 2 箇所および "IETF and ISOC" 1 箇所を "IETF Trust and the IETF" に置換します。
5 章において、"ISOC" 2 箇所を "IETF Trust" に変更します。
5.4 節中の著作権表記において、"Internet Society" を "IETF Trust" に置換します。
5.5 節において、THE IETF TRUST" を "INTERNET SOCIETY" の後に挿入します。
5.6 節において、すべての "Internet Society" もしくは "ISOC" の箇所を "IETF Trust" に置換します。
7.1 節において、"IETF/ISOC" 2 箇所を "IETF Trust and IETF" に置換します。
8 章において、", the IETF Trust" を "ISOC" の後に挿入します。
この種の標準化過程文書は、インターネットもしくはインターネットプロトコルのセキュリティについて、直接的な影響をもちません。
