Japanese IT Security Evaluation and Certification Scheme

The Japanese IT security evaluation and certification scheme has started its operation from April
2nd,
2001, in order to support the development of the IT security infrastructure of the
e-Government, which is the core project to promote the IT revolution in
Japan.
(MITI; The former name of the METI (The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) announced the scheme on September 13, 2000)
This scheme is based on the international standard ISO/IEC 15408(Information Technology -Security techniques- Evaluation
criteria for IT security, JIS X 5070 is the Japanese version), and intended to evaluate and check the
quality and capability of security functions of the IT related products
(Hardware/Software/System).
