Virus Report Status for 2007

This is a summary of computer virus report status from January to December, 2007 aggregated by IPA.

 

1. Reported Numbers

The yearly reported number of virus for 2007 was 34,334 – significantly decreased from 44,840, the one reported in the previous year (2006) which tending to be decreased from 2005. It can be assumed that the reporting number is getting decreased as such virus which spreads quantity of virus causing major infection has not been existed recently.

As it showed in the Chart 1.2, the reported number actually infected to a computer was also getting decreased and the reported number for actually damaged was 0.2% against the whole: that was almost the same with the one in the previous year (2006). The fundamental measures, that is, users use anti-virus software to detect potential virus before being infected, is promulgated among user community.

2. Reported Virus

The gross reported number of virus for 2007 was 166 (2006: 156): of 46 viruses were the initially reported to IPA in 2007 (2006: 29). Though the newly reported viruses were increased in its number, none of virus significantly enlarging infection was realized: the consequences of the worst 3 viruses were almost the same in the previous year.

Of W32/Netsky , W32/Stration and W32/Mytob were the worst 3 viruses in (descending) order among entire viruses reported.

W32/Netsky was initially reported to IPA in February 2004: since the largest number (the worst number) of reports relevant to this virus is reported to IPA consecutive years.
