This is a summary
of Computer Virus Status Report for the 1st half of 2007 (January
to
June) aggregated
by IPA .
1. Reported Number
The
reported number is tending to decrease gradually since the last-half
of 2004 when it peaked with 30,194. The reported number for the
first-half of 2007 is 19,024 - the reported number lesser than
20,000 is the first time since IPA has started to accept files
from the last-half of 2003.
The
following graph shows the shift in reported number accepted for
files by IPA Security Center for every 6 months.

*%s in the graph are
the ratio for actual damage by infection.
2.
Shift in Detected Number of Virus
According
to the shift in the detected number of virus, the number is tending
to decrease though there are minor ups and downs. It may be tentatively
increased with the timing upon existing new viruses and/or their
different variants such as W32/Stration which appeared in October
or W32/Looked which appeared in November 2006. However, the damages
caused by them are being settled within several months and decreased.
The W32/Netsky still constitutes a
large number of detection against the entire detection number of
viruses.

3. Reported
Number by Virus
According
to the shift in reported number by virus filed by IPA, it can be
seen that the reported number of W32/Netsky is remarkable among
the other viruses filed by IPA as with the features interpreted
in the Detected Number of Virus column in the Section II above.
In addition, the large number of reports relevant to W32/Stration
is also reported by IPA in November 2006. As for the viruses on
the graph do not show apparent symptoms in case infected; it is
assumed that users hardly realize that they are getting infected.
Though any of suspicious behavior is not recognized, be sure to
conduct virus check by activating certain security measures software
routinely for your further security.
