This
is a summary of computer virus report status from January to December,
2006 aggregated by IPA.
1.
Reported Numbers
The annual reported
number for virus for 2006 was 44,840 which drastically decreased
from 54,174 for the previous year (2005); however, it was the
third worst reported number counted since when the virus report
had started and it showed that viruses were still spreading.

*Reported number for
1990 was the number aggregated from April to December.
The damage from infected
computers (actual damage) was tending to decrease year by year:
the ratio for actual damage was 0.4% for 2005 and was 0.2% for
2006. It seemed that certain security measures such as installation
of anti-virus software to mail server, etc. were widely penetrated/accepted
among users' community.

The reported virus was
156 types (2005: 171 types): of 29 types (2005: 51types) were
the viruses initially reported in 2006. The types of viruses frequently
reported were W32/Netsky , W32/Mytob
and W32/Sober respectively.
The W32/Netsky
was initially reported in February 2004 and the reports
relevant to this virus are unchangeably many filed with us.
