Computer Virus Incident Report for the the 1st half of 2006 (January to June)

This is a summary of Computer Virus Status Report for the 1st half of 2006 (January to

June) aggregated by IPA .

1. Reported Number

The reported number being increased from 2003 was turned to being decreased gradually

at the peak point of the last half of 2004 with the reported number of 30,194. As for the

first half of 2006 was 23,828 and was further decreased from the last half of 2005 with

25,909.

The graph shown underneath presents the actual reported number for every half year

filed by IPA Security Center.

2. Transition in Virus Detection Number

According to the annual detection number, it tends to entirely be decreasing. However,

the detection number was tentatively exceeded more than 10M since W32/Sober's

variants which emerged in November 2005 sent out massive virus mails.

W32/Netsky is continually dominated most of all detection number unless including the

emergence of W32/Sober's variants.

3. Reported Number by Virus

According to the reported number by virus filed by IPA, the reported number for

W32/Netsky is outstandingly many . W32/Mytob subsequently follows to it, but

its number tends to being decreased.

Because number of reports relevant to W32/Netsky is continually filed with IPA, it is

assumed that there are number of users sending mails without knowing that they are

infected. For your security, be sure to conduct virus check daily using anti-virus

software.
