Computer Virus Incident Report for the the 1st Quarter of 2006

This is a summary of Computer Virus Incident Report for the 1st Quarter (January - March) 2006.


1. Reported Numbers

The reported number for the 1 st Quarter (January to March, 2006) was totaled 13,093 . Following graph indicates the movement of reported number for respective quarters (for 3 months). The reported number has been moving at high rate since from the 4 th Quarter of 2004. However, the ratio for infection from damage indicates below 1% against the whole: although such virus which mainly exploits mails has been spreading, it can also seen that certain preventive measures such as virus check at mailing server, etc. are being penetrated.

2. Detection Number for Virus

Since the variant of W32/Sober sent out number of virus mails in the 4 th Quarter, 2005, the detection number for that Quarter was almost doubled. In addition, the variant was configured to halt its activities in January 2006, the detection number for the 1 st Quarter, 2006 returned to be previous level.

3. The Reported Number Classified by Virus

The W32/Netsky virus for which has been reported many from 2004 is also slightly decreased compared with the numbers reported in the past quarters, however, it still remains high levels compared with the other viruses'.

In addition, the status in which the virus's spreading still continued. It is, therefore, crucial to implement fundamental anti-virus measures daily such as application of modification program , utilization of anti-virus software and/or being cautious when handling attachment files , etc. to prevent any of damages to provide for newer virus or its variants emerge.

4. Shift in the Reported Number Classified by Reporter

The breakdown for the type of reporter is as follows: the reports from general corporate users constitute more than 90% against the whole.
