This is a summary of computer virus report status from January to December, 2005 aggregated by IPA.
The yearly reported number of virus for 2005 was 54,174 and was moved to almost the same level of 52,151 which had been reported in the previous year (2004); however, it was the worst number in history.
*Reported number for 1990 was the number aggregated from April to December.
Such case actually infects (be damaged) PC is tending to decrease year by year: in 2004, it was reported 1.2% and in 2005, it was reported only 0.4% against the whole. It seemed that the users' security awareness; by implementing anti-virus software to their mail servers, etc.; is increasing.
Reported virus for 2005 was 171 kinds (2004 = 142): of 51 was the initially reported virus in 2005 (2004 = 53).
The worst 3 reported viruses were W32/Netsky, W32/Sober and W32/Mytob, respectively.
In addition, the W32/Sober variants which emerged in November became 2 nd place in detected number for only 2+ months (about 12.95M).
