This is a summary
of Computer Virus Incident Report for the 3rd Quarter (July - September)
2005.
1. Reported Numbers
The reported number for
the Third Quarter of 2005 (July to September) was totaled 13,729.
Following graph shows the shift in the reported number aggregated
by the IPA Security Center for each quarter (for 3 months). After
the Second Quarter of 2004, the reported number has been moving
at certain high level of approx. 14,000. However, the ratio for
the damage by infection has been showing less than 1% from the
Forth Quarter of 2004.
Since virus spreading status still remains, it is important to
conduct continuous preventive measures.

2. Detection Number
for Virus
As for the detection number for virus which has been started its
aggregation from April, 2004, its reported number again exceeded
more than 10,000,000 in the Second Quarter of 2005. As for the
cause of the increase, a number of the variants of the W32/Mytob
which exploit functionality of mails emerged which likely to enlarge
infection. Since the timing of a newer virus or a certain virus’s
variant’s emergence are not foreseeable, it is necessary
to be cautious when you handle attachment files to e-mails daily.

3. The Reported
Number Classified by Virus
Although W32/Netsky for which reported number continually be many
tending to decrease while seeing the shift in the reported number
aggregated by quarterly. However, the reported number remains
higher level comparing with the other viruses’.
In addition, W32/Mytob which possessing bots functionality
had also spreading and the reported number is rightly after following
the W32/Netsky’s.
