This is a summary
of Computer Virus Status Report for the 1st half of 2005 (January
to June) aggregated by IPA .
1. Reported Number
With the peak reported
number of 30,194 cases received in the last-half of 2004, the
reported number being tended to increase from 2003 is slightly
be decreased in the first-half of 2005; 28,265 cases.
In addition to the W32/Netsky
which has been spreading since last year, for the first-half
of 2005, W32/Mytob and a number of its variants
were emerged as well: quite a few reports have been rushed to
IPA.
The following graph shows
the shift in reported number for every first-
and last-half period (a 6-month) accepted by IPA Security Center

2. Shift
in Number of Virus Detection
In the shift in number of detection
for a year-round, the number has been moving about 2.5M
to 3.5M . In virus category, the status that the most
of number of detection against the whole have been constituted
by W32/Netsky still remains; however, W32/Mytob
which emerged in March 2005 is rapidly enlarged
.
3. Reported
Number Classified by Virus
In the shift in reported
number classified by virus reported to IPA, it can be seen that
the reported number for W32/Netsky is outstandingly erupted
. Other than that, the reported number for W32/Mytob for
which a number of variants continually emerged is also drastically
increased.
There may be a number of
users send virus mails without realizing that they are infected.
Be sure to conduct virus check daily by using anti-virus
software , accordingly.
