This is a summary of Computer Virus Status Report for the 1st Quarter of 2005 (January – March) aggregated by IPA .

1. Reported Numbers

The reported number for the 1 st Quarter of 2005 (January – March) totaled 13,876. Following graph shows movement of the reported number for each quarter (for 3 months) received by the IP A Security Center . Once the number increased in the 2 nd Quarter of 2004, it keeps higher level of movement up to the 1 st Quarter of 2005. However, ratio from infection damage below 1% for overall of reported number; in another word, it can be seen that preventive countermeasures is promoted even virus spreading status is remained.

2. Virus Detection Number

As for the virus detection number initially aggregated from April 2004, it decreased about 16% in the 4 th Quarter of 2004 compared with the higher levels kept in the 2 nd and 3 rd Quarters of 2004 and it remains similar level of movement for the 1 st Quarter (January – March) of 2005.

3. Reported Number Classified by Virus

W32/Netsky Virus for which a number of reports rushed from 2004 remains to move at high level comparing with the other viruses even its case nos. for each quarter tends to decrease.

However, that the spreading condition by virus continues. It is vital to conduct fundamental countermeasures in place on daily such as application of modified program , utilization of anti-virus software or taking care for handling attachment file to e-mail , etc. to prevent damage in case of new virus or its variant emergence.

Breakdown of reporters are as follows; reports from corporate users took over more than 90% for over all.
