Computer Virus Incident Report for the 3rd Quarter (July to September) 2004

This is a summary of Computer Virus Incident Report for the 3 rd Quarter (July – September) 2004.

1. Reported Numbers

Reported numbers for the 3 rd Quarter 2004 (July to September) was 15,327 which still maintains high movement from the 14,889 marked in the 2 nd Quarter 2004 and was about three times higher reported numbers compared with the one marked in the same quarter in previous year.  

The following graph shows movement for the reported numbers marked for every quarter (or for 3-month interval).

2. The Reported Numbers for each Virus and Virus Detection Numbers

According from the movement of the reported numbers *1 for the worst 6 viruses reported to IPA, more than 1,400 cases in relation to W32/Netsky emerged in February was reported to IPA continuum of 7 months from March which caused to increase reported numbers entirely. Further, the movement for detection numbers *2 , it remains taking over more than 85% against entire reported numbers excluding 79% which marked in August after April.

The state spreading viruses moves at high rate. In case newer virus emerges, please re-confirm your countermeasures against virus by applying modification programs , utilizing anti-virus software and be cautious for handling attachment files as fundamental measures to avoid damage from infection.  

*1 Reported Number:   Upon aggregation of virus counts, same kinds and its variants reported in a same day are counted as 1 case even how many are found by a same filer in a same day.

*2 Detection Number:   Upon reporting, virus detection counts (cumulative) by a filer.

3. Classified by Filers

The breakdown classified by filers is shown below; reported numbers from general corporate users is taking over more than 80% and that state still remains.
