Computer Virus Incident Reports［summary］
Ten Thousand Reports With Half A Year Submit!!
（Three Times More Than The Same Period Of The Last Year）
This is the summary of Computer Virus Incident Reports of June 2001 and the first half of
this year compiled by IPA: Information-technology promotion Agency (President: Shigeo
Muraoka).
1,335 reports were submitted to IPA in June, which slightly decreased,
compared with the number 1,515 in May. It was about 2.5 times more than the number 549 in
the last June and it still shows large number. The percentage of actual infection has been
decreasing last four months since February and it was 11.5% in June（5% down compare to
May）.
There seems to be good sign of doing Antivirus measures properly such as applying
Antivirus software.
However, the reality of the spread of virus still continues so that you need to keep doing
proper Antivirus measures.
The total number of reports in the first half of this year was 9,569, which
is about three times more than the number 3290 in the same period of the last year.

Q: I got an exe file under the name with 8 letters of the English alphabet, which does not
show the name of sender, the subject and the text of the massage. Is that virus?
A: It is W32/Hybris.
Virus called W32/MTX
Q: I had got infected W32/MTX and want to recover. I see "This program has performed "frequently. It has not recovered yet?
A: Once you get infected W32/MTX, lots of major programming files used in a system.

Antivirus software does not cure?! |
Many latest virus alter important files in a system and registry when it activates. And
most of them cannot be cured by Antivirus software. There are inconvenient cases that
Antivirus software cannot be installed or the definition file cannot be renewed.
If it is before being infected, all you have to do is to erase the virus file.
But after you get infected, the only way to recover is to initialize and reinstall
systems, which cause severe circumstance where you lose precious data that would be
address book or favorite or E-mails from your friends.
Basically, Antivirus software is effective in inspecting and preventing from
occurring. Even if it has recovery function, you have to make sure that it does not
cure completely after being infected. Recently, you can find providers that provide
services of checking virus on E-mails. Using this service would be effective in preventing
from occurring infection. You need to make sure the detail before you use it.（Provider
for individual : BIGLOBE,KCOM,OCN and so on.）
