7.申請テーマ概要

Lots of systems that is spread in the Internet now are made being assume to be used by a human being and the functional description and a practical process is inconsistent and it is roughly impossible to say a computer understands and uses this. Against it, Web Services which are designed on the bases of a unified standard and can be invoked by computers has been spread. Still more, Semantic Web Services (SWS) in which these Web Services are automatically discovered / composed / executed. However, the SWS are still in a stage of research and have not been spread widely.
The aim of this project is to dramatically increase utilization efficiency of the Web by letting the SWS spread and automate searching and processing of information on the Web for end-users. To achieve this, we grasp the SWS as more light-weight and construct a web-based platform “Patchservice” which encourage the end-user initiated spread of the SWS.
Former (Semantic) Web Services have not been spread easily because special knowledge has been needed to produce Web Services (and their semantics). By producing services (and their semantics) in the end-user initiated manner, the Patchservice realize positive feedback that services and their semantics increase leveraged by user increase and user increase leveraged by services and their semantics. We hope for explosive spread of the SWS brought by the Patchservice.

8.採択理由

The momentum that semantic webs have received in the past year has been impressive. I have acted as an advisor to two companies that have just received significant venture funding. The proposal to focus on end user initiated services gives an interesting alternative to the classic approach and could yield not only a useful set of ideas and user results but also the potential of starting a major new direction.

I believe it is a valid comment on the part of the proposer that currently there is an excessive amount of knowledge required to produce such services for users. If their claim that their approach will dramatically cut down on such specialized knowledge then it may indeed lead to an explosion of the use of such systems like the PC did to the use of computers.  This is an example of a very interesting idea which could run into problems due to its size and large number of pieces and an aggressive schedule. I think my experience in dealing with such projects will help define what can be done to structure the system to gave the maximum operational features and the maximum extendibility in the allocated time.
