1.プロジェクト全体の概要

|
|

This
project was intended to be organized around interesting research areas that
would arise from making the Squeak/Tweak development environment more
suitable for use in Japan and elsewhere in the world. During this period,
the grants awarded concentrated on developing computer systems that could
help children or teachers learn without needing other primary
instructors. Today there are a number of active research groups
around the world, and now in Japan, seeking to make better authoring
environments for children that will work on a larger scale and over greater
age ranges.

2.プロジェクト採択時の評価(全体)

|
|

When
the project proposals were first submitted they were reviewed with several points
in mind; 1) relevance to the “call for projects”; 2) innovation and
creativity of thought; 3) possible impact on other research in the area; 4)
potential commercial value; and 5) relevance to other work in computer
science and education in Japan and other countries.

3.プロジェクト終了時の評価

|
|

We
are assessing these projects overall by multiplying the quality of content
by the amount of work (but with a cutoff that doesn't accept low quality or
low amount of work). All three of the projects show quite a bit of work and
the reports were reasonably extensive to very extensive. The choice of
problems in each of the projects was good, and considerable progress during
the funded project was made and reported. In general, we are very happy
with the results from this funding period.
