７．申請テーマ概要

　　　This project develops a new way to introduce Squeak to elementary schools in Japan. The project consists of two parts: 1) a new function which will show tutorials while children are working on their Squeak projects, and 2) development of two sets of Squeak integrated lesson plans and video-clips of necessary skills. The purpose of the project is to promote widespread Squeak to regular schools in Japan. Squeak is powerful software which requires children to acquire personal inquiry, divergent thinking, and self-directed learning in order to construct their knowledge. One unique aspect of the project is that it includes pilot studies which train 15 teachers to use the project. The results of the pilot studies not only increase the quality of the project, but also make teachers become Squeak pioneers at their own schools.
