Infrastructure Building Program for Open Source Software

Because its source codes are made public, open-source software (OSS) such as Linux is said to be highly effective for developers in improving technology and reutilizing results, and for users in ensuring reliability and security. On the other hand, the infrastructure for using open-source software has not been fully established. Open-source software, for example, has weaknesses in support, development environment, and user interfaces, and does not have many corresponding applications or middleware products. IPA endeavors to build an infrastructure for the secure utilization of open-source software by helping upgrade the utilization and the development environment.

Software Development

IPA invites proposals from the public for development of key open-source software including middleware, desktop and embedded software.

IPA acts as the secretariat of the Japan OSS Promotion Forum.
