| 7.Project Summary(プロジェクト概要) The design and implementation of multilingualization ("m17n") of a dynamic object-oriented environment called Squeak. The goal of this project is to provide a collaborative and late-bound environment where the users can use many different natural languages and characters. |
| 8.Adoption Reason(採択理由) "Multiculturalization" is a highly important, but little advanced part of living in the same networked computing world. "Multilingualization" -- the ability to easily change a system's language features to be suitable in a new language environment -- is usually only possible in parts of a system. This project will extend the state of the art in this area by going beyond simple symbol substitution, and will also address the problem of help and error messages, etc. |
| 9.Project Evaluation(プロジェクト評価) The project tackled a very hard problem -- dealing with true multilingualization of a programming environment using UNICODE as a base -- in a very comprehensive and useful way. The excellent results will benefit both education & computer science in Japan and in the rest of the world. Each of the actual work, the presentations and the documentation were done in a timely and excellent fashion. This is first class work! |
